About This Item
Very good. A collection of concert photographs, video cassette recordings, and other items associated with Mad Parade, a stalwart hardcore punk outfit from Los Angeles. The material was assembled by the band's drummer, Mike Sosa, who has also played with Red On Strike and Guttersnipe Rebellion. Founded in 1982, Mad Parade features vocalist Billy Ledges, guitarists DT's and Joey Kelly, and bassist Stevo, with Sosa on drums. The band released a pair of demo tapes that attracted the attention of KROQ's Rodney Bingenheimer, who championed their self-titled 1984 album. Anticipating the rise of pop-punk, their melody-driven sound drew on 999, Buzzcocks, Dead Boys, and other U.K. and New York acts for inspiration. Mad Parade released a second album, A Thousand Words (1987), before calling it quits in 1988. They reformed a few years later and remain stalwarts of the San Gabriel Valley punk scene. This collection includes: an album containing 60 color snapshots of the band performing at The Whisky in Hollywood, California on July 16, 1987; a binder with photocopied clippings of press coverage Mad Parade received in fanzines and mainstream publications between 1985 and 1986; a concert-used drum head inscribed to Sosa by Pablo LaBritain of the band 999, one of Mad Parade's primary influences; eight VHS cassettes with recordings of Mad Marade performing in concert, including a 1991 performance at Maritime Hall in San Francisco; a case containing 24 audio cassette tapes - most are mixtapes, including a pair labeled "Tour On Hwy. 101", others include a recording of Mad Parade performing live in Pittsburgh in 1985 and a demo tape from Whittier, California's Million Six; vinyl pressings of two Mad Parade albums: God Bless America (2000) and Clown Time is Over (2017). Some general soiling and wear to the audio cassette tapes; the material is otherwise in very good condition.
