About This Item
1923 hardcovers as pictured. A handsome set, these two volumes include the first 4 books of The Long Journey saga. The Long Journey is a series of six novels by Danish author and poet, Johannes V Jensen, written between 1908 and 1922. The books deal with the author's theories on evolution, backdropped against a description of humanity from pre-Ice Age up to the voyage of Christopher Columbus. The work is fictional, weaving in Jensen's stylistic mythic prose with his personal views on Darwinian evolutionary theory. Translation by A G Chater. Bindings are firm. Dark green cloth boards with gold stamping show light edge wear at head and tail of spine and corners. Patterned endpapers are mottled along edges with pencil markings at front. Head and tail bands with gilt top edge of rough cut text block. Texts appear clean and unmarked. Each volume includes several b&w illustrations. No dust jackets.
