Hardcover, blue cloth boards with gilt on front and spine. Exterior shows handling wear spine is sunned. Edges and corner show bumping and rear board has a crease near the upper left corner. Internal binding is good overall though hinges starting to crack at the front board with a thin opening measuring about an inch at the top. Floral end pages and front and rear are free of any handwriting, bookplates or library markings. Paper is toned due to age and there is some minor spotting and foxing. Inscribed and signed by the author on the third front end page: "Ernest Ashton Smith, with Best wishes for highest professional success 1916 ".
