Hemingway's portraits of such contemporaries as Gertrude Stein, Ezra Pound, James Joyce, and F. Scott Fitzgerald, as well as his evocations of his first years of marriage, glow with joy. "There is never any ending to Paris," Hemingway writes, "and the memory of each person who has lived in its differs from that of any other. We always returned to it no matter who we were or how it was changed or with what difficulties, or ease, it could be reached. A Moveable Feast is a memoir by American author Ernest Hemingway about his years as an expatriate writer in Paris in the 1920s. The book describes Hemingway's apprenticeship as a young writer while he was married to his first wife, Hadley. Other people featured in the book include Aleister Crowley, Ezra Pound, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ford Madox Ford, Evan Shipman, Hilaire Belloc, Pascin, John Dos Passos, Wyndham Lewis, James Joyce, Gertrude Stein and Hermann von Wedderkop. The book was not published during Hemingway's lifetime, but edited from his manuscripts and notes by his fourth wife and widow, Mary Hemingway. It was published posthumously in 1964, three years after Hemingway's death.

Hemingway lived in a small apartment on the rue Notre-Dame-des-Champs. He is reminded with vivid portraits of those he knew and of those he met along the way. The memory of Gertrude Stein providing little glasses of liquors, Ezra Pound boxing, and others including one of the more important portrayals, that of Scott Fitzgerald. This was the twenties in Paris and the story of his youth and friends. Bound in 1/4 rust cloth over marbled paper covered boards stamped in gilt, spine lettering gilt, a fine bright copy in an unclipped pictorial dust jacket with tiny old tape mends to underside of jacket.
