He was born in Ballydoorty, Ireland and attended the Seminary of All Hallows College in Dublin. He was ordained in 1955 by John Joseph Scanlan & appointed Titular Bishop of Cunga F�ichin (1973) and Auxiliary Bishop of his home diocese. He was ordained a bishop in 1974. . He retired from his post on 22 February 2005.
