Author Malcolm Ross ( 1895-1965) writes soon after the Great Depression, and argues that technological changes which displace labor have unforeseen societal consequences, shining a spotlight on the "near-slavery conditions of the coal mining industry." Originally a journalist, Ross would work as the Public Relations Director of the National Labor Relations Board the year after this publication of his first book.
