This very rare book in new condition published in Finland in 2008 covers the life of a humble, brave, and fierce fighter who was named by the Russian forces in the winter war as "The White Death". Interviews of him in later years tell the story of a young man who was an expert marksman and fought alone and cunninly to help protect his homeland against the Red Army. For sniping Simo Hayha used his own m/28-30 rifle the whole time. Simo was wounded on March 6 1940. This book is a captivating story of his life with photos, awards, medals, and maps.
The book is written by Tapio Saarelainen, who is a career officer in the Finnish Army. He spent two decades training snipers and interviewed Simo many times during 1997 - 2002, investigating Simo's life and accomplishments.
Condition is brand new.

On 14-17 April 1940, a secret meeting was held in the Kremlin to examine and analyse the performance of the Red Army in the Soviet-Finnish Campaign, 1939-40. This book is the first English translation of a unique record, held in the Russian State Socio-Political History Archives in Moscow. It is the sole verbatim report of a meeting that addresssed the fundamental issues of military policy and the state of the armed forces, and discussed a programme for further military construction.

This book is a captivating read that goes into detail with soldiers, airmen, ambulance personnel and firemen, and with the tragi-comi incidents which followed their demobilization after the end of the Winter War in March 1940 and which only ended when the last one was repatriated late in 1942. Much of the information given has been obtained by special permission from official Finnish and Swedish archives and is now in print for the first time. Book includes copies of photographs taken during this time (1939 - 1941). Condition: This book has never been read and stored for many years. The book has a small area front bottom right corner that is dented and the dust cover at that area has a very small tear. Please see photos.
