First edition.Rare in such condition.This picture book about an old man and his pets was created by an artist, writer, art theorist and one of the 'founding fathers' of the Moscow Conceptualist artistic movement Viktor Pivovarov (born 1937). He studied at the Moscow Polygraphic Institute under Pavel Korin. As well as some others avant-garde artists since 1930s illustrated children's books to stay away from repressions, Pivovarov did the same in 1960-1970s. Since late 1960s he worked in the Detskaya Literatura publishing house where he met representatives of the 'Lianozovo group' Igor Kholin and Genrikh Sapgir, and through them, Ovsei Driz and Ilya Kabakov. Pivovarov was also part of the Sretensky Boulevard Group, a loosely associated community of artists with neighbouring studios in Moscow that included Ilya Kabakov and Erik Bulatov. The author of the book artist Boris Kreitser (1905- 1979) studied ar VKhUTEMAS. He was sentenced to death during Great Purge but escape execution. After returning to Leningrad he continued illustrate books. This edition is quite uncommon for that time. It was total prepared by the artist, selection of poems, vignettes, letters. We can find five anti-Soviet verses there, if noticed all verses without vignettes.

First and only one edition. Livre d'artiste. Lithographed book. Aleksandr Vvedensky was one the founders the OBERIU group (Union of Real Art). This association considered be one of the most radical poetry groups. The members of the group were attacked in press, then arrested and expelled from Leningrad. Since that Vvedensky started work for children. Nevertheless Vvedensky was arrested and died in prison in 1941. Most of Vvedensky's poetry was not widely known during his life-time. The book was illustrated by Ol'ga Pchel'nikova. She studied at The Russian Academy of Arts. She worked as artist in film industry. Pchel'nikova died in Leningrad during WWII. We couldn't trace any copy on OCLC
