This is a rare book which has been signed by the author dated Christmas, 1936. The previous owner put their name and address in Pencil on the same FFEP. The only other copy I found was a gift to the ACP American College of Physicians Library. I found other papers written by Dr. Karl E. Kassowitz out of Milwaukee. He was born in Austria and was an Austrian Combat surgeon in World War I. He was captured by the Russians and moved to Siberia. He escaped with a comrade and fled in a Chinese disguise across the frozen wilderness of North China to the Austrian Legislation in Pekin. He eventually returned to Austria after he was imprisoned by the British in Gibraltar. B. 1886 (Austria) D. 1978 (Milwaukee). I counted 18 printed illustrations which were cut out and glued in the book. The illustrator worked in pencil (not the actual pencil illustrations) but copies. This binding is in poor condition with very worn corners and spine edges. The cloth is torn on both sided of the spine. The book is complete although the second rear free end paper is torn with a piece missing and some paper is missing from the back board. Both hinges cracked with pages 175 onward detached at the top string. The boards are also soiled. No dust jacket. The copyright date is 1935.
