White card covers with black comb binding; red and blue cover title with illustration of Democratic donkey. No publication information. Inscribed at foot of first page: "Rena James 1986-87" (Rena Genoble James Farnsworth (1921-2011)). Sold as a fundraiser for the Buncombe County, N.C., Democratic party, this cookbook contains 78 recipes, many with an Appalachian perspective, along with cooking tips. Includes: brown sugar pound cake; likker pudding; batchelor's pie; garlic & cheese grits; molasses johnny cake; upside down pie (a hamburger and tomato soup dish); apple & pork pie; shrimp pie; chicken huntington; pickled peaches, and squash; perfection salad (with pickles); Asheville barbeque beef; hot riz egg bread; honey dew biscuits; best hushpuppies ever; Asheville salad; and chicken & slicks. In Very Good+ Condition: small discoloration at upper edge of front cover; first page has inscription noted above, and small mark next to 8 names of the 28 contributors; otherwise clean and tight.
