A pocket guide to some 350 places in England of American historical interest with particulars of over 400 eminent Americans associated with them. Condition notes: The pictorial boards are rather rubbed, presumably from serious use, but the book is still clean internally. External page edges are grubby, especially the top edge. If you are coming to England from America as a first-time visitor, buy a smarter copy of this to leave at home, but buy this one to keep in your pocket.

This republication contains a map, but no illustrations were included. Condition notes: Bumping to cover, with some edge wear, otherwise in sound, clean condition.

Hardback. Good/No Jacket. 792 4to. Undated, but believed c 1830. Engravings 'under the direction of C Frommel' depicting views of Ancient Greece, each preceded by a page with few relevant paragraphs of text, in German and French. The engravings appear to be engraved copies from various earlier publications, with in some cases contemporary additions (human figures). Subjects include Thebes, Parnassos, the Temple of Olympian Zeus at Athens, and the Temple of Apollo Epicurios (near modern Andhritsena). While the book is quarto in format, with each page 315 mm by 241 mm, the engravings themselves (I think india-proof, tipped in) are only 148 by 108 mm, including a generous margin. An item of social history rather than archaeological or topographical record. While not telling us what Greece in the 1830s was like, they do give us some idea of what 1830s man thought Greece ought to look like. London: John Murray, 1946. Hardback. Good/Poor. 718 8vo. 1946 reprinting of the 1942 first edition. Mushroom-coloured cloth-covered boards. Many photographic illustrations and maps. Condition notes: The two foldout maps at the rear of the book are in good condition. The dust jacket is torn with substantial loss. Page edges (fore-edges untrimmed) are grubby. The front board shows substantial differential fading, due to the torn dustjacket. The binding is firm and pages unmarked.

London: Constable, 1928. First Edition. Hardback. Good/No Jacket. 930 8vo. In original cloth-covered boards. Fold out map at rear, diagrams (most in the run of the text) and crisply-reproduced photographs, all as called for. With three appendices and an index. Philby's final volume of his account of his time in Arabia in 1917 and 1918. "I was, I think, the very last European to sojourn in the Wahhabi Arabia before the advent of the motor-car". He offers a view of the country, and of Ibn Saud himself, some years before the coronation of Ibn Saud and the establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Condition notes: Boards bumped, internally clean, crisp and sound; the map and photographs are in excellent condition. This copy misses being classed as Very Good because of staining to the rear board, and some fraying of the joint between that board and the spine. Photographs available.

Condition notes: Supplements 9 and 10 show signs of having been in the water, while supplement 11 has led a drier life. As usual, the staples of all three are rusted and have caused some staining to the front page.

Glazed pictorial boards, 96 pp. Condition notes: Barely-discernible signs of wear to the boards, otherwise excellent inside and out.

Condition notes: Previous owner's name in pen across index map (which is across front paste down and following page). Maps and plans all in good, clean condition. Flowers pressed between some pages have caused no damage so I am leaving them for the next owner. Dust jacket a little chipped. Boards a little bumped but overall a nice copy.

Glossop, Derbyshire UK: The Transport Publishing Company, 1980. First Edition. Hardback. Very Good/No Jacket. 1079 4to. Landscape format, 252 mm x 208 mm. A history of the buses built by this company from its beginnings in 1912. Lavishly illustrated, in colour and black and white. Condition notes: The laminated boards show some wear along the hinge and a little bumping. The binding is still firm and the book clean and bright, internally and externally.

Condition notes: Covers very soiled, rubbed and worn, spine strip probably a replacement, being stuck over the last page, text block sound with some dog-earing to earliest and latest pages, loss of margin to last page, age-tanning to pages.

As well as details of routes, it includes diagrams of wiring arrangements and many illustrations from photographs (pages 33 to 48). Pictorial dust jacket, brown cloth covered boards. Condition notes: Some edge wear and sunning to the dust jacket; book sound, clean and bright.

Covering the ships, crew, ports and many other aspects of Britain's merchant fleet in the early twentieth century. Condition notes: Boards rubbed, foxing to external page edges and to earliest pages and subsequently to some margins. One page was cut too large at binding and has been folded at the margin. Previous owner's name to front free end paper- a neat but illegible name Cadet B.I.S.M.Co. There are some bibliographical notes also to the front free end paper.

Binding a little slack, and strained just before the first page of illustrations. Overall, a clean, sound copy with some signs of wear.
