Drama at sea during…
1 p. carbon copy of war time communication, with penciled corrections and annotations, which begins…
Received orders by radio from Commodore to …change course by wheeling without further orders.… On March 18, at 2315, as we were following in the wake of #102, steering at 009° - 56 revolutions, sighted a stern light on the starboard bow which appeared to be steering the new course of 086° and assumed it to be our column leader #101. We gradually changed our course to 084° and at 2330 we were already on that course. We had our side lights and stern light on full brilliancy and sounded one blast on the whistle at frequent intervals. At 2342 sighted a stern light and a green light about four points on our bow that seem to come closer and right wheel was ordered and executed. At 2343 we could make out the shape of a ship coming at us sounding two blasts on his whistle and steering approximately 140°. As a collision looked imminent, hard right wheel was ordered and executed. At 2345, as a ship was swinging rapidly to starboard, our stem struck a ship between the bow and the bridge. We immediately sounded the general alarm and ordered engine full astern. …
Final line: Sent message to the Commodore informing him about the collision.
An artifact, a single leaf, to survive the war, providing the slightest glimpse of protocols and administrative procedures. Creases show that the piece of paper was repeatedly folded till little more than the size of a pack of gum, and, for whatever reason, saved. Condition is very good.

Trumansburg, NY: Out of Step Press. Fine with no dust jacket. 2016. Numbered Edition; First Printing. Pamphlet.
