owners name on the first blank paper with summer dated 1950 at the bottom edge of the front endpaper.The inside pages are clean and unmarked. <p>
The dust jacket is in good condition. Some edge wear and small chips, Missing 1/8" top edge of the spine and 1/8" off an inch on the back of the dust jacket about an inch at the top right hand edge. Some edge wear on the spine.<p>
Also includes three reproduction postcards of the McDonald Tea Room.<p>
The McDonald Tea Room was in Gallatin, MO. I live about 30 miles from Gallatin, and when I was younger , I remember eating at the Tea Room. I have tried some of the recipes in her book and enjoyed them. The Tea Room no longer exits.<p>
Virginia came to Gallatin from Texas, the bride of a Missouri traveling man. Years of subsequent illness during which her husband had given up his job to take care of her had depleted their their small fortune and plunged them into debt. The returns from a small hardware store her husband had started in his father's old blacksmith shop were meager, and she had installed a counter along one side for serving children sandwiches, but there were few children. Virginia's venture was started in 1932. Gallatin is a very small town, 8 miles from anyy main highway and eighty miles from any metroplitan city, yet from this humble beginning has developed one of the most famous eating places in America at the time.<p>
Most every national magazine as well as metropolitan newspapers and radio stations have given recognition to the achievement of Virgina McDonald as well as the thousands of visitors to her Tea Room.
I am always interested in this cookbook and hope somebody else will be too. A nice addition to anyones cook book library.
