Description:
This very interesting First Edition copy of the Memoir of the Rev. Francis Higginson by Joseph B. Felt tells the life story of a man who died in 1630, was written and published in 1852. The memoir booklet, which measures approximately 6 x 9 ½ inches, contains 23 pages of text and was published in Boston by Thomas Prince, Printer for the Office of the N. E. Hist. And Gen. Register. The book is string-bound and in brown paper covers with black printing on the front. The pages are lightly tanned with text that is clear and easily read. The covers show signs of wear, including some pencil markings, an accumulation of dirt and problems along the spine. The overall condition of the booklet is good/very good.
Francis Higginson (1588–1630) was an early Puritan minister in Colonial New England, and the first minister of Salem, Massachusetts. Description:
This copy of the Memorial of Col. John B. Baldwin of Staunton, Virginia was published in Staunton in 1874, following his death on September 30, 1873. The introduction to the memorial consists of the statement "The various tributes of respect, admiration and affection for Col. Baldwin, which his death called forth, have been collected and are printed in the present form for the gratification of his personal friends...The many letters received by Col. B's family, are highly and gratefully appreciated by them; but nearly all are of so private a character as to render their appearance, even in a collection of this kind, inappropriate."
The booklet, which measures approximately 6 x 9 inches, contains 46 pages enclosed in brown paper covers with black lettering on the front. This copy of "Tokens of a Nation's Sorrow" - Addresses in the Congress of the United States, and Funeral Solemnities on the Death of John Quincy Adams, who Died in the Capitol at Washington on Wednesday Evening, February 23, 1848 was published by the Congress and printed by J. and G. S. Gideon of Washington, D.C. The booklet, which measures approximately 5.75 x 9 inches, contains 40 numbered pages plus a front free end paper bearing a portrait of John Quincy Adams, with a copy of his signature, protected by a tissue paper cover. The text consists of the following parts:


Introduction (pages 3 – 5), describes the circumstances of his death, during a session of the House of Representative in which he was participating


Addresses in Congress on the Announcement of the Death of Mr. Adams (pages 7-28) describes the activities and speeches made by Mr. Adam's colleagues subsequent to his death
