About This Item

N.p.: N.p., 1979. Double weight photograph of John Belushi performing on stage as Jake Blues, with members of The Blues Brothers horn section in the background. Signed and dated "1979" on the verso by photograher Alan Pappe, with his stamp. Struck by Pappe circa 1990s, from his archive.

Pappe worked as a film still and press photographer for 30 years, photographing a who's who of film and music stars, including iconic images of Sharon Tate, Jimi Hendrix, and Liza Minnelli, as well as album cover for the "Grease" soundtrack album, and the interior images of Jefferson Airplane's "After Bathing at Baxter's." His 1972 "Time" magazine cover photograph of Minnelli in "Cabaret" is part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery.

Begun as a musical sketch on "Saturday Night Live" in 1978, the Belushi and Dan Ackroyd fronted band released an album "Briefcase Full of Blues" the same year, and toured extensively. A film detailing their fictional efforts to "get the band back together" was released in 1980, and Ackroyd, backed by an ever changing lineup of musicians, continues to perform as Elwood Blues to this day.

10 x 8 inches, with wide horizontal margins. Near Fine.
