Notes: "Appointed to be read in churches"--title page. Separate title page for the New Testament, undated. In double columns with textual notes in margins. In full black calf leather which overhangs each side to protect page edges. All pages edges gilt. Very fine paper, occasional foxing. 1000 pp. Also has Aids to the student 259 pp, Glossary of Bible Words, Index to persons, places and subjects. Concordance, and indexed atlas at rear. Covers are rubbed at the edges but interior is excellent Full-Leather. Good. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. Eyre and Spottiswoode. Sir William Leece Drinkwater (28 March 1812 – 22 May 1909) was a First Deemster of the Isle of Man. Though not a Manxman by birth there is in his veins a considerable admixture of Manx blood. He was called to the English Bar in 1837. Ten years later he was appointed second Deemster of the Isle of Man, and in 1856 promoted to be First Deemster. in 1877 he received the honour of knighthood. "Peck, Sheriff of Norwich in 1561 and Mayor of the city in 1573 and 1586, built Spixworth Hall in 1607. By the 20th century the hall had fallen into disrepair and it was demolished in 1950."
