Albuquerque, NM, 1925. Three letters, each on a different style of letterhead, written in Baca's capacity as the attorney for various parties. In one letter, Baca requests the current status of a case; in another he requests a correction to a decree sent to one of his clients, and in the third he writes in requesting information about a case that was supposedly set for trial on the day he received the notice. In two of the cases, Baca appears to represent Hispanic New Mexicans. Baca was something of a folk hero in his native New Mexico, known for his participation in a gunfight in Reserve, New Mexico, in which he killed two men. Soon after he was made sheriff of Socorro County, New Mexico; he studied law and became a lawyer. While serving as an official representative of the Mexican government during the revolution, Baca was charged with conspiracy for helping arrange the escape of a Mexican general from the Albuquerque jail (he was acquitted). "Jerry" Williamson, declining participation in his forthcoming New Masters anthology, but offering to write a story for the second volume: "I have a fund of tales simmering in my brain-pan, awaiting the time and opportunity to become print." (It is not clear if New Masters got off the ground-there is a similarly titled anthology with a different editor). Barker's letter is friendly, offering updates on the publication of the Books of Blood and Damnation Game and an unnamed screenplay going into production (probably Underworld). He clears up confusion over his agent and again expresses enthusiasm for contributing to one of Williamson's anthologies (he finally did with Masques 5).
