Sherry Garland is a highly respected writer with a fascination for the Vietnamese people and their country which she has visited. Of the numberous books Sherry has written for Harcourt, 3 other titles from the !990's are Vietnamese stories. Trina Schart Hyman has been illustrating children's books for more than 30 years. She received the Caldecott Medal for her romantic illustrations for "Saint George and the Dragon", and twice has been awarded Caldecott Honors (to 2001).

INSCRIBED by George on the title page, also with a reference to page 58 where he has added the first names (George and Irma) to the reference of the couple George and his wife Joan rented their first home from. George has written candidly of the good times and the hurtful times. Circa 1930's. Preface dated 1911. 6 full-page colour illustrations by Walter Crane. Red topedges. A handsome edition. Bumps to top and bottom corners of front board. Endpapers show a young boy seated in a chair and reading from a book which has 6 scenes "emitting" from the book.
