Meryon was celebrated among artists and collectors alike during the nineteenth century for his etched depictions of Paris. This series of his Parisian views were inspired by the novels and poetry of Victor Hugo.Number 38 out of a limited edition of 636. Includes Meyron's original cover etching for the 1852 edition on the front board. Includes a portrait of Meyron by Félix Bracquemond, and Meyron's well-known etching "Le Stryge," often translated as "The Vampire," which shows the famous chimera perched on the balustrade of the gallery of Notre-Dame Cathedral against an aerial view of the expanding French capital.
