The plan was to release the bats into Japan and fires would flare up all over and destroy millions of wood and paper buildings. Even President Roosevelt backed the scheme. It might have worked, except that another secret weapon--something to do with atoms--was chosen to end the war."

Additionally, there are 24 pages of b/w photos and a few maps. This book was initially published in Canada by Stoddart publishing under the title "Tug of War". A VG+ pictorial d.j. with some "yellowing" of the rear panel and some crinkling of the bottom of the dustjacket spine. The endpapers depict the "Operations to Clear the Scheldt Estuary and South West Holland". Blind Stamp of the previous owner on the half-title.

Interesting pictorial boards, where the front cover shows a merry-go-round with the kids riding animals, but on the rear cover, the animals are riding the kids. Some of the usual stories, featuring Dennis the Menace, Minnie the Minx, Ivy the Terrible, Baby-Face Finlayson, and General Jumbo. Opening story "A Nightmare on Bash Street". A stiff copy, perhaps only read once or twice.

1st U. S. edition. Originally published in Switzerland in 1988. VG+ glossy pictorial boards. Rabbit and Mouse spend the winter with Bear in his cave, telling him wonderful but untrue stories of how they can fly and the things they have seen. Black remainder mark on bottom page edges, not affecting the boards. Both the author and the illustrator live in Switzerland.

An Aldine Paperback. 20 stories Edited and Introduced by Maurice Richardson. "Beatrix Potter and Hawkshead" last reprinted 1996, "Beatrix Potter and Hill Top" last reprinted 2000. That's what I have; there are probably more recent printings out there. Each book has a sprinkling of Potter illustrations as well as many photos of her and a few of her and her husband William Heelis.
