Big Woods, the Hunting Stories by William Faulkner. Published by Random House, New York, 1955. Illustrated by Edward Shenton. Very good, first edition book in very good dust jacket. Green cloth covered boards with gilt lettering and black paw graphic on front panel; gilt lettering within black panel background and gilt publisher's name/logo on spine. Upper external page edges are green-tinted, and with faint name stamp "Property of ...." Edges at head and tail of board spine are crimped and scuffed, close to but not quite fraying. Internally clean and with snug text block. Dust jacket soil is more obvious against the white background of back panel and also shows splash marks. Upper edge at head of spine is chipped and rubbed and with small closed tears on the corners. Minimal rubs along lower edge at tail of spine. Upper fore-edge corner tips have small loss from rubs. Bishop Burnet's History of His Own Time. In Two Volumes printed for Thomas Ward, London, 1724 & 1734. First Editions. Very good books in calf. Vol II is rebacked with original spine panel laid down. Board panels have double-gilt fillet borders with decorative frame and corner pieces in blind. Six raised bands on spine, all edged in gilt; gilt lettering on red and blue morocco in the second and third sections respectively. External page edges are red-speckled. Vol I 1724 [xvi], 836; Vol II 1734 [xxii], 765 pp. Folio. 14 1/8" by 9 3/4". Board panels and edges are rubbed and scraped, corners slightly bumped. Front hinge of Vol I is cracked with FFEP starting from the lower end. Same bookplate on paste-downs of both. Minimal foxing, limited to several first and last pages. Slight age-toning, else internally clean. On the verso of the title page in Vol II is a manuscript note from Thomas Burnet: "The original manuscript of both Volumes of this History will be deposited in the Cotton Library by T. Burnet."…
