Description:
From the back cover of the book: "In her late thirties, unskilled in construction techniques. Chris headed into the interior of British Columbia and, in the pristine wilderness of Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, cleared a piece of land and built her own home. This is a story of courage, perseverance and imagination. From the moment Chris sets her inexperienced foot into an unsteady canoe until the triumphant day she stands back to survey the log house she has built, we are irresistibly drawn into her remarkable journey toward independence."

Description:
The History Committee, St. Andrews and Caledonian Society. Seemingly a well-researched book on the emergence of 3 Scots in what became British Columbia, 3 Northwest fur company explorers: Alexander Mackenzie, Simon Fraser and map-maker David Thompson. Then in 1811, two traders from the tiny Pacific Fur Company came north from Fort Okanagan and stopped in Kamloops; Scots Alexander Ross and David Stuart. In 1812, Alexander Ross returned to Kamloops and built a small trading post for the Pacific Fur company. Soon the Hudson's Bay company moved in and the rest is history.
On the title-page: "Compliments of the Kamloops and St. Andrews Society", plus the signature of an early owner of the book; o/w a VG+ copy.

Description:
A blow-by-blow account of The Campaign of Chancellorsville in 1863, wherein the newly promoted Joseph Hooker took command of the Union forces (130,000 troops) and in April, 1863 took the battle to the Confederate army across the Rappahannock river. Union casualties at Chancellorsville numbered 17,287, Confederate 12,463. Counted among the latter was Stonewall Jackson who was mortally wounded by his own soldiers in an accidental shooting. As for Hooker, he was allowed to "resign" from command, after Lincoln and his advisers determined "that both the check at Chancellorsville and retreat were inexcusable, and that Hooker must not be entrused with the conduct of another battle." Collector's Notes laid in.
The usual attention given by Easton Press gives us a deep red leather volume with gold decoration and spine title and author in gold as well. Gilt edges, silk moire endpapers and satin bookmark. The book does have one flaw: a small edge stain on the gold edges, pages 505 to the end of the Index, page 528.

"In World War II the Canadian Navy embarked on a five-year anti-submarine offensive with a tiny fleet of six destroyers and a navy largely untrained in submarine warfare. This chronicle of ship successes and losses charts the increase in fighting capability of the Canadian naval forces and their growing success against enemy submarines and surface warships."
"The information provided in each account represents comprehensive research into the incident from available records and from personal recollections and interviews collected by the authors. Each includes the ships and crews involved on both sides, their movements just prior to the event, the action itself, the casualty lists, and the medals awarded as a result of the action."

Description:
From the d.j. flap: "This book is a follow-up volume to one produced over thirty-five years ago by John a. Griffin. John Griffin, in collaboration with co-authors Ken Castle and Robert Smith, carries the compendium forward in this book, which covers the thirty years since the unification of the Canadian Forces in 1968. It traces the history of aircraft on charge at the time of the reorganization and provides details of the aircraft acquired by the newly created Canadian Armed Forces. Security considerations of the Cold War era required that full details on fifteen of the aircraft types, the operational fleets of those days, had to be "abridged". Those fifteen types are slso included here, even though they entered service several years before the formation of the Canadian Forces. Complete listings of tow aircraft and gliders operated by the Air Cadet League of Canada, as well as aircraft with Canadian civil registrations operated at the Canadian Aviation Training Centre at Southport, Manitoba, are included."

Description:
From the d.j. flap: "The coastline of British Columbia is tortuous, rugged and at some seasons of the year, forbidding. For many who lived there the dominant feature of the Coast, both geographically and spiritually, was isolation. Into this context, over the years, the Lord has brought chosen workers to serve Him in response to his Great Commission. Among them have been the people of the Pacific Coast Children's Mission, who have taken the Good News espcially to the scattered and often isolated children and their families. This is an inspiring story of how God interwove their lives as intricately as the coastline he put them into, to be for Him A Candle on the Coast."
