This is a 1926 edition of 20 etchings by French artist Charles Meyron (1821–1868). Meryon was celebrated among artists and collectors alike during the nineteenth century for his etched depictions of Paris. This series of his Parisian views were inspired by the novels and poetry of Victor Hugo.
Number 38 out of a limited edition of 636. Includes Meyron's original cover etching for the 1852 edition on the front board. Includes a portrait of Meyron by Félix Bracquemond, and Meyron's well-known etching "Le Stryge," often translated as "The Vampire," which shows the famous chimera perched on the balustrade of the gallery of Notre-Dame Cathedral against an aerial view of the expanding French capital.

This is a 1979 revised edition of the original 1948 biography. With 192 illustrations. Includes the original 1946 forward by Alvar Aalto, a 1972 preface by author Albert Christ-Janer, and a 1979 note by his wife Virginia Christ-Janer describing "delays too numerous to mention" leading up to the publication of the revised edition (Albert Christ-Janer died in 1973).This book is in good condition except for minor page wave at the lower right of the first 50 pages (no staining though) and foxing along the page edges.
