With 25 full-page monochrome plates and 3 coloured maps on cloth-backed paper. There is some occasional lght foxing to the text. Four plates have small embossed library stamps and one page an ink stamp on the margin. Includes a 22 page section on the birds of Kolguev.

Light spotting to page edges and occasionally in the text. The first 4 pages of the front endpapers have an account (written in pencil) of how the book does not shed any light on the reasons why a Mongol child is born to an English family. It could be erased. Bookplate on the front paste-down and an inscription on the facing endpaper. Illustrated with black & white photographs & a folding map.

Small 8vo. Pp. lii + 188. A fine copy. With 64 colour plates by G.M.Henry. The plates in this first edition are far superior to those in later reprints, attractive, richly coloured and printed to a high standard.

Fine in black cloth, dust wrapper rubbed at top and edges.
