California State Department of Education, 1961. Hardcover. Good. Part of the Wonder-Story Book and The Alice and Jerry Basic Reading Program. Published and used by the California Department of Education. This copy has the Cal. State Textbook and the elementary school stamped on front pastedown. Small numerals stamped on FFE and rear pastedown. The colorful pictorial boards are scuffed and soiled. Wearing to corner tips, and the heel and head of spine are very shelf worn and dented. Fingerprint smudges throughout. Splitting at front and back hinges, revealing the stitching (Smyth Sewn), but not to an extent that the pages are loose, in fact, they are still quite intact. Pages are age-toned, and as mentioned smudged with kiddo fingerprints. Text block is dirty and soiled. Nice reading copy. 159 pages.

Corners have very light bumping, small ding and crease at the top of the spine, and the bottom of the spine has shelf rubbing. Beige covers have very faint dirty spots from being handled. The author was very active in a variety of social causes pertaining to neglected and abused children after graduating from the University of Wisconsin. This book contains various stories about the Loomis family between 1900 and 1915.

Front pastedown has delightful drawing, in pencil, of what appears to be a hobo smoking a cigarette. Artist/owner name next to the artistic handiwork. Foxing on paste downs and FFE. This is the second revised edition, 38th impression, and as such the "Further" has been incorporated into the original title. Lightly scuffed and soiled covers. Lightly dented corner tips, scraped at top and bottom of spine. Crimped and chipped cover edges. Inside front cover is lightly tanned, as is the title page. Pages are clean, unmarked and in very nice condition. Binding remains strong. Tucked within the pages is a small card, presumably addressed to the first owner of the book, which reads thusly: "Dear Mr. _____, Due to the big deficit the United States will suffer, my grandfather (Roger W. Very first page has had upper corner cut off, hesitate to refer to it as "price clipped." First few pages also are creased at upper tips. Pages are significantly age-toned. This is a readable copy, however there is cracking between a few pages in the gutters. 288 pages.

Page immediately after title page has publishers correction to the first run affixed to page. Pages 275 thru 278 have a tear or rip of one inch in length and folded inward.

Very old, very fragile and delicate directory published in conjunction with the Great Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia. The condition is extremely rough. Red cloth boards are faded, dirty, stained, scuffed, worn through, and scratched. All corners of boards are worn through and top and bottom edges of spine are significantly frayed and worn through. Pages are delicate and yellowed. Binding is very loose. This directory is chock full of great old advertisement engravings. Between the listings for various businesses are important dates and events in U.S. history categorized by year and date beginning with the year 1702. Make no mistake, this book is in rough shape, as to be expected for a 150 year old book. Inside end paper has a faintly legible owners name and date of 1878. 516 pages.
