Important and scarce political cartoon lampooning the repeal of the Stamp Act under the administration of George Grenville, Prime Minister from 1763 to 1765. "One of the most famous and popular political satires commenting on the Stamp Act". (Dolmetsch) Background As Prime Minster, George Grenville (1712-1770) was faced with restoring Britain's finances and reducing the national debt, which had doubled with the cost of fighting the Seven Years' War. In normal circumstances, the first step of government would be to reduce the army from its wartime to a peacetime establishment. CONDITION: Good ex-library, worn cover, spine sunned, slightly cocked, library marks throughout, some maps with light tears at edges and separations at folds. Report on a United States military and geographical expedition through Alaska, traversing the Inland Passage, Chilkat Country, mountains and glaciers. Expedition members built a raft for travel on the lakes and then the rapids of Yukon River, ending 1303 miles later in the Aleutian Islands. Lieutenant Schwatka was chosen to command this expedition to survey Alaska and report on the native population after participating in the 1878 American Geographical Society search for lost Northwest Passage explorer Sir John Franklin.

CONDITION: One four leaf section detached, otherwise intact and good, rubbed, small loss of cloth to front cover, light toning on text pp., engravings clean and very appealing.

A rare sheet music requiem with a fine lithographic portrait of Custer on the title-page, published in the same year as the Battle of Little Bighorn. Although written without lyrics, this memorial composition commences with the directive, Maestoso, meaning intended to be played in a stately and majestic manner. On the second page the directive "lamentuoso" appears-that is, to be performed plaintively or sadly. Two additional phrases invoke notable melodies, "Adeste Fideles" (the traditional "O Come, All Ye Faithful") as well as "Rest, Spirit Rest," the title of a requiem for Abraham Lincoln by E. Hoffman. The lithographic cover features a dashing portrait of Custer in uniform, with a sword, Indian hatchet, and other weapons appearing along the floral-strewn title, as well as a facsimile of his signature.
