First edition of this uncommon work.Complete in two volumes. A comprehensive history of Oxford, a detailed and vividly described topography of the county. The author explores Oxford from its beginnings, to the Great Riot of 1297, up to the mid-Victorian era, with a chapter focusing on the future of Oxford.Written by John Cordy Jeaffreson. Bookplate of the Clan MacDonald to the front paste downs.Sixteen pages of publisher's adverts to the rear of Volume II. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Only a few minor marks and a little light rubbing to the boards and spines. Spines are a little discoloured. Front hinges are starting but firm. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso of the front endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good
