About This Item
Berkeley: Ten Speed Press, 1988. Hardcover. Small 4to. Brown leatherette with gilt spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. xii, 142pp. Fine/very good. Faint jacket edgewear only. This handsome, tight first edition of (to cite jacket front panel) "Righteous, Down-Home Barbeque Recipes" is authored by none other than the African-American activist, Black Panther Party co-founder and Chicago 8 defendant Seale (born 1936). This intriguing presentation copy bears Seale's huge inscription and signature in black ballpoint on the title page: "4-24-89 / To Alan / Dershowitz / Save the equatorial rain forest / Dismantle apartheid. Toward a peoples / cooperational humanism -- The world over! / Bobby Seale." Dershowitz (born 1938) is a controversial attorney and media figure whose high-profile cases have included defending Mike Tyson, Patty Hearst, O.J. Simpson (as advisor), Jeffrey Epstein and others.
