About This Item
First edition of Horace Smith's first historical fiction. Complete in three volumes. 'Brambletye House' is a historical fiction novel set during the last years of Oliver Cromwell's reign, and Charles' return to England. The novel is largely set in Sussex, with beautiful description of the picturesque county scattered throughout the volumes. Written anonymously by Horace Smith; this was his first novel, after publishing the popular parody 'The Rejected Addresses'. In the original half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. The leather is a little discoloured and lightly worn. Firmly bound. Various inscriptions found on the end leaves. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with just a few odd spots, especially to the end leaves.
