Smith Collection of the University of Texas Huntington Art Gallery (renamed the Blanton Museum after this book's publication). Includes 74 color and 76 black & white photos representing of a wide variety of notable Western artists, such as Henry Farney, Charles Russell, William Ranney, Albert Bierstadt and many others. Each artwork accompanied by an explanation of the piece being displayed, along with biographical information about the artist by various contributors. Includes a preface and lengthy essay on collecting Western art by editor Richard H. Saunders. C. R. Smith was the longtime CEO of American Airlines and collected Western art while living in New York City. --- In full maroon cloth-covered boards with spine titling in gilt. Volume wrapped in dust jacket with Oscar Berninghaus's "Oregon Trail" to front panel. --- A well-preserved, bright, unmarked copy. Unclipped, unpriced jacket is intact and bright, but with a few small tears and creases to edges, retailer's back panel sticker; wrapped in removable archival mylar protector.
