Philadelphia: Elliott & Beezley. Good+. 1889. Reprint. Hardcover. C. C. Post (1846 - was a Shiawassee County, Michigan-born lawyer and author who was involved in the anti-monopoly movement, founded the School of Psychic Research,and authored several books. This is sometimes considered to be an early muckracking novel which lays blame for the Mussel Slough Tragedy in California at the feet of the Southern Pacific Railroad; much of. Original pictorial brown cloth with gilt spine and cover lettering and black illustration of covered wagons. This was the author's first book. This edition contains: Part II, "Bodies Without Souls, Dangers that Threaten Us," which is not in the first edition. This is an early reprint of the first edition (which was published in 1884). Post wrote the popular "Ten Years a Cowboy" in 1886 (but it was titled differently when it was first published). The spine slightly worn with a crack to the inner hinge; usual browning to pages from this publisher; child scrawl (mostly erased) on p 184 and 185).
