An important early work on the mythology and folklore of fairies with chapters on the origin of the belief in fairies, fairy-lands, fairy queens, Oriental romances, Middle Age romances, and more. With sections for individual countries including Germany, Great Britain, Switzerland, Ireland, Southern Europe, and Africa. Written by Thomas Keightley, an Irish writer known for his works on mythology and folklore, particularly this work. Publisher's catalogue to the rear. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Splits in the cloth to the joints with fraying to the head of the spine. Hinges starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting. Further spotting and light age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the title page. Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
