"The History of the United States" first appeared in 1834, and because of its immense popularity, vaulted Bancroft's reputation. Bancroft sought to describe the colonization of many of the original colonies, charters between Britain and America, and accounts of the American Revolution. Interestingly, nearing the middle of the 19th-century, there was a growing interest in England of the effects of the war on America. This 1840s British edition was published in Edinburgh and London in two beautifully-bound leather tomes.
