Smith, Elder & Co., 1862. Hardcover. Acceptable. 1862. First Edition. 258 pages. No dust jacket. This is an ex-Library book. Gray cloth. Library copy, with expected inserts and inscriptions. Publisher's catalogue to rear. Spine reinforced with brown tape. Black and white illustrations throughout. Both hinged reinforced with tape with noticeable brown.Mild cracking to rear causing board to come away towards bottom edge. Binding throughout remains firm with all pages attached. Rough-cut pages have mild tanning with occasional foxing. Front free endpaper is loose. Occasional pencil annotations. Minor tearing and chipping to edges of some pages. Occasional brown staining with faint thumb-marking. Text is unaffected. Library stamps and cards to front endpaper and pastedown. Boards have heavy edge wear with corner bumping. Cloth is frayed with noticeable splits to edges. Severe discolouration to both boards with visible water staining overall. Cloth to front is creased. Book has a slight forward lean.
