About This Item

Subscription Editon, Ninety-Full Page Engravings. Bright moss green cloth hardcover boards with gold gilt decoration along the top and bottom of the front board and spine. Spine also with gold gilt text. Front and rear boards have beveled edges with minimal edge wear to the boards but corners all show wear and bumping. The back strip of the spine is worn along the top and bottom but text is still bright. Small blemishes and some rubbing to both the front and back covers. The spine is straight and firmly attached to the decorative end papers. Text block is solid with gold gilt on the top edge and deckled pages along the front edge. Tissue guard intact over frontispiece. Darkening at some page edges, some foxing and age tanning throughout. Previous owner name in pen and stamp on the front-end paper and also stamped on rear endpaper. It is inscribed on the blank flyleaf page before the half title page, "To A. M. Shields Compliments of Oliver Davie, Dec. 25, 1894". Interior pages are clean with no chips, tears, or other previous owner marks. Pages are number by sections, also includes index and 13 pages of subscriber names (of which copies were sent around the country and around the world). Extra postage required for international shipment as heavy volume.
