About This Item
London: Harper Collins,, 1995. First edition, first impression, presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the title page "To Tim Cowell all good wishes Margaret Thatcher". The recipient worked in the late 1970s and early 1980s as Assistant Director of the youth wing of the Conservative Party. This was a troublesome position, as many young Conservatives took a radically right-wing line under Thatcher, to her embarrassment - Norman Tebbit had to shut down the Federation of Conservative Students in 1986. The Path to Power was the second volume of Thatcher's autobiography, covering her years at Oxford, her political education and rise in Parliament, and her leadership of the opposition, concluding with her election as prime minister. Octavo. Original black cloth, spine lettered in gilt, blue endpapers. With dust jacket. Unclipped jacket very lightly rubbed: a fine copy in near-fine jacket.
