Bright red heavy textured cloth hardbound boards with black text and image to the front cover with gold gilt title, author, and publisher on the spine. Overall, the spine and boards are in very good condition with only a small discoloration blemish on the front and rear boards but with no wear or damage to the back strip or board edges. The corners are sharp with only a small point of wear. Spine is straight and hinges are firm with no cracking to the endpapers. Text block is solid with all pages firmly attached. Slight age tanning throughout. The title page was multiple small creases to the lower right corner, otherwise, all interior pages are clean with no tears, cracks, or previous owner marks. Two pages of Later Alchemistic Symbols.
First published in 1889 (with 2nd Edition in 1899) this 3rd Edition has been "Translated from German and Revised, with Numerous Additions". "The revision has therefore introduced many features of special interest to English-speaking pharmacists and physicians, while retaining for the most part the style, arrangement and illustrations of the original."
