First printing of this fascinating text on the history, cultural importance, and social significance of fashion, written by a prominent woman psychologist. Among reflections on the evolution and transmission of western fashion are notes on the cutting-edge fashions of 1929, including a passage on the influence of aviation and the "New Position of Woman." This copy was owned by Marguerite S. Hopkins, an instructor in textiles and clothing in the Home Economics department at Iowa State College. 8.5'' x 5.75''. Original blue cloth boards. Black-and-white frontispiece with 13 black-and-white illustrations. viii, 244 pages, including index. Owner name to front pastedown, "Marguerite S. Hopkins," dated 1930. Binding with light edgewear, a bit of bumping to spine ends; slight a lean. Interior clean and bright.
