Frank Townsend Hutchens, a plein air painter of portraits, landscapes and figures, while skilled and prolific, remains a relatively unknown artist in the Impressionist movement. That is until now. William D. Hutchens, Frank Hutchens' great-nephew, has painstakingly reconstructed Hutchens' life through his letters, citations and artwork. Born in Canandaigua, Frank Hutchens studied at the Art Students League in New York as well as the Academie Julien and Academie Colarossi in Paris. He exhibited at noted museums and galleries including the Paris Salon, the Royal Academy in London, the Corcoran Gallery and the National Academy of Design.
