Numerous black & white illustrations; Bibliography and Index. A fascinating glimpse into life on the edge of the moving frontier as the Indians were moved westward. James G. Thompson was a pioneer in Grayson County, Texas in the 1830's establishing a ferry at Preston Bend on the Red River north of Dallas. He sold horses to the Army during the period of the Red River War and also to the Butterfield Stage Line which passed through this area. This book traces his family history and includes genealogical information on many families. It also includes in facsimile the 1832-33 daybook from his trading post at Webber's Falls (near the confluence of the Canadian and Arkansas Rivers) in eastern Oklahoma.
