Daniel L. Garrett was born March 4, 1941, in Zanesville, Ohio, son of the Rev. Bernard John Garrett and Pauline Smith Garrett. He has a sister, Marjorie Garrett Veach. He earned the BA degree from the University of Virginia, an M.Div. degree from Yale Divinity School, and the D.Min. degree from Wesley Theological Seminary. He was a commissioned officer in the U. S. Navy, with service in Vietnam. Ordained Elder in The United Methodist Church, he served six pastoral appointments in the Virginia Conference, and completed his active ministry as Adjunct Assistant Professor of United Methodist Studies at Union Presbyterian Seminary, Virginia Union University School of Theology, and Eastern Mennonite Seminary. He is married to the Rev. Dr. Susan S. Garrett, a retired United Methodist Clergy. They make their home in Berryville, Virginia. They have two sons, Dr. David C. Garrett, and Joshua L. Garrett, both of whom are Electrical Engineers, and three grandchildren. In retirement Daniel Garrett serves as Chaplain of the Clarke County, Virginia, Sherriff's Department, and chairs the Advisory Board of the Winchester Virginia Corps of The Salvation Army. His hobbies include golf and serving meals at the Salvation Army Shelter.
