Inscribed by Shaw on the half title page to Frances Noyes Hart; "The Committee refused to accept this statement; and there was a very pretty row about it which is fully described in the preface to the Shewing up of Blanco Posnet. G. Bernard Shaw. London. 3rd Oct. 1931. To Frances Noyes Hart". A fine copy in original blue stiff card wrappers printed in black to upper cover. Housed in a blue vellum chemise which is lettered in gilt, reproducing the exact lettering, even using the same typeface, as the printed front cover. This is then housed in a quarter green morocco slip case with raised bands and gilt rules and lettering to the spine. The slip case is rubbed and worn but has done its job of keeping the booklet and chemise in fine condition. Frances Noyes Hart was an American short story writer. Revelation was written at the height of Christians prosecution by the Romans and the book as inspired many past literary masterpieces by the likes of Dante and Milton. For this edition the great American artist Allan Rohan Crite was inspired to produce fifteen relief engravings for possibly the ultimate illustrated edition of the book of Revelations. Revelations passionately speak against the power of evil and encourage Christians to resist even at the cost of martyrdom. Many critics considers this to be Crite's finest religious work. One volume (16 x 22 inches) Relief engravings were printed on Japanese paper and mounted on heavy paper handmade in Pescia Italy. Signed and inscribed second printing (in first edition jacket) of Maclean's collection of semi-autobiographical short fiction, a now-classic of Western literature and fly fishing, whose title novella formed the basis for the 1992 Robert Redford-directed film of the same name. Maclean's inscription, on the front endpaper, reads: "University of Chicago, / April 15, 1979. / To Bobby: / With deep affection and best wishes. / Norman". Although we can only guess at the identity of the inscribee--perhaps a former colleague at the University of Chicago, or a friend at the Press--Maclean's warm inscription and use of first name only suggests that the two were quite close.
