About This Item

[Maryland?], 1822. Good. Broadside. Tall folio (7" x 12¼"). Text printed in two columns. Signed in letterpress: John Rentch. July 20, 1822. Moderate toning, a few small stains at the margins, some creasing along two old horizontal folds, a few small nicks and closed tears along the bottom horizontal fold with slight loss of one printed word, good overall. An address by John Rentch, a member of the Troop of the Washington Hussars, concerning two elections for officers of the Troop, the first of which was postponed by the active commander, Capt. John V. Swearingen: "But as soon as we were ready to proceed with the election, Capt. Swearingen stated to the Troopers, that he was not ready to give up the command on that day ..." Apparently, at the second election, John Rentch was elected as Captain, but the election was later overturned by petition of John Swearingen. Rentch presents his case for re-instatement. Scarce. No copies in *OCLC*.
