About This Item

The Vanguard Press, 1938. Good/Very Good . An early but later printing. Some scuffing and wear at edges and corners of book; the dustjacket is price clipped, with two short tears and some light edgewear. Laid in with this copy is a Program Booklet for the Play "The 500 Hats" from The Children's Theatre Company of Minneapolis, MN., 1980; about 20 pages. The booklet is signed "Dr. Seuss" on the title page and is in Very Good condition. Since 1979, CTC has been the only theatre in the country to produce world-renowned children's book author Ted Geisel (Dr. Seuss)'s The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins on stage. In fact, their's was the first theater adaptation of a Dr. Seuss work of any kind. CTC produced Bartholomew Cubbins on its main stage six times, and this program was from their first production. Children's Theatre Company (CTC) is the first theatre for young people to win the coveted Tony® Award for Outstanding Regional Theater (2003). Thus, a scarce and unique Dr. Seuss collectable pair.

Synopsis

The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins is a children's book, written by Dr. Seuss and published in 1938. Unlike the majority of Dr. Seuss's books, it is written in prose rather than rhyming and metered verse. The characters of Bartholomew and King Derwin appear again in a later book, Bartholomew and the Oobleck. Set in feudal times, the story begins in the Kingdom of Didd, when King Derwin is riding through a street past Bartholomew Cubbins, a poor boy in the market.
