Nattali and Bond. London. No Date.,Circa 1850. THREE VOLUMES. Tall 8vo (10.2 x 6.6 inches). Text and plates taken from the Ninth edition. Complete set of this famous trilogy, with 80 fine hand-coloured, full page, aquatint plates, the colouring still strong and bright, by Thomas Rowlandson. Some minor spots of foxing to a few leaves in each volume but generally clean and bright copies in the scarce original publisher's brown cloth bindings, with gilt lettering and decoration on spines. Decorative blind stamped panels on boards. Original yellow coated endpapers. Previous owners bookplates to front paste downe endpapers. Some rubbing to top and tail of spines and fore-edges, and a couple of the hinges with neatly repaired splits (about 1.5 inches) but generally these are very good examples. Slight uniform fading to spines but overall a very attractive set of this classic work with Rowlandson's humourous plates. Uncommon in the publishers original decorative cloth bindings.:

Gilt inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Armorial bookplate of noted author of books on folklore and topography, Sir George Laurence Gomme (1853 - 1916) on the front pastedown. Some offsetting to the endpapers from the leather turn-ins. A little rubbing to the extremities and the spine faded to an attractive brown but overall still a lovely copy of this scarce work in a fine quality binding. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a master bookbinder.

Inner Dentelles fully decorated with gilt ruled lines and floral designs, surrounding fawn Moire silk centre pieces. Silk endpapers. All edges gilt. Spine just very slightly toned. A light mark to the top outer corner of the rear silk endpaper. Neat school prize label, from St. George's school Harpenden and dated 1913, to the front blank free endpaper and gilt coat of arms stamp to the front inner board but otherwise the pages are clean and bright throughout. No binder's ticket, but appears to be a contemporary custom rebinding: blue leather spine and corners over blue cloth, gilt titles and rules, top edge gilt, new end sheets. "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them.

Ikebana Arranging Images; Kamata, Soseke, 1950's. A nice publication given to Julia Jane Jeffers Dodge while here husband was helping Japan recover after the war. Her husband Joseph Morrell Dodge had a long and distinguished career and tried to help reform Europe but later wound up as financial advisor to Douglas MacArthur in the economic revitalization of Japan. This edition is in very good condition internally. Photos of Ikebana arrangements by the famous Japan Ikebana master. A gift given to Julia Jeffers Dodge and placed in her library. 38 single sided (double page but other side blank) on high quality Japan paper with photo examples of Ikebana, black and white. A rare publication.

This is a special Collector's Edition Easton Press printing (with white bookmark) bound in leather, illustrated by Bob Eggleton with an introduction by Charles Sheffield. Niven and Pournelle's classic science-fiction tale in a Very Fine copy. Hardcover, but no dust jacket, so novel cannot be protected by archival Mylar cover.
