Text printed in red and black. Text gatherings loose in paper wraps printed in red and black, as issued; suite of extra plates in separate envelope; the entire package presented in printed board chemise with silk ties. Gatherings unopened; plates variously foxed at edges; envelope containing plates quite yellowed; chemise renewed along backstrip and joints.
First appearance of the annual that galvanized the social network of fin-de-siècle Paris bibliophiles. Contributors of fiction and essays included Anatole France (on Antisemitism), Octave Mirbeau, Jules Lemaitre, and many others. The publication endured for six years.
