About This Item
N.p.: N.p., 1940. Draft script for an unproduced film.
The daughter of a wealthy New York City businessman struggles over her position in life when she can't seem to choose between a wealthy British suitor and a middle class New York City police detective. She attempts to strike out on her own and work for her own money, but the men in her life secretly protect her. Although it disturbs her when she finds out she's been watched over, she eventually forgives them both, and then must choose one to marry, of course.
Though similar in title to the 1944 King Vidor film "An American Romance," also written by Herbert Dalmas, this script bears little to no resemblance in plot to that film, and we must assume that this was an earlier, less effective screenplay of Dalmas'.
Pale yellow wrappers, with credits for screenwriter Dalmas. 177 leaves, carbon typescript. Pages Very Good plus, wrapper Very Good plus bound with three gold brads.
