Jo Daemen was a Dutch graphic designer, illustrator, draftsman, glass artist and poet. She began her training in 1907 at the School of Applied Arts in Haarlem. She became a book cover designer for Brusse publishers in Rotterdam in 1909, and went on to illustrate sheet music and short stories for the magazine De vrouw en haar huis. Daemen also wrote lyrics for the Bussum pianist and singer Jacoba Craamer. She worked for some time in the studio of the famous glass artist Willem Bogtman. From Wiikiipedia: George English was an American Marine was commissioned a second lieutenant. He sailed to the Mediterranean, and was among the first citizens of the United States known to have visited Egypt. Shortly after arriving in Egypt he resigned his commission, converted to Islam and joined Muhammad Ali Pasha as the Topgi Bashi (chief of artillery) in an expedition up the Nile River against Sennar 1820, winning distinction as an officer of artillery. Some historians have noted that "there is a high probability that he became a secret agent" and that his service in Egypt was a part of that intelligence service. He published his Narrative of the Expedition to Dongola and Sennaar (London 1822) regarding his exploits.This volume is the frist American edition, published one year later than the English edition.
