About This Item

First UK Edition; A Near Fine book in a Near Fine dust jacket. SIGNED by the author to the title page. An outstanding copy of this Nobel Prize winning author's 2nd novel; uncommon in this condition and signed. This copy is in near fine condition showing only light rubbing to the board edges, moderate foxing to the page edges, and one tiny stain to the bottom exterior text block. Housed in a crisp and bright near fine dust jacket that shows only some faint staining along the bottom of the back panel (nearly invisible externally) and a couple of light rubs to the panels, else fine. Overall, a highly presentable and collectible copy; not remaindered, not price clipped, and not ex-library; in a Mylar sleeve and will ship carefully wrapped in a sturdy box.

Synopsis

An Artist of the Floating World (1986) is a novel by British-Japanese author Kazuo Ishiguro. It is set in post-World War II Japan and is narrated by Masuji Ono, an aging painter, who looks back on his life and how he has lived it. He notices how his once great reputation has faltered since the war and how attitudes towards him and his paintings have changed. The chief conflict deals with Ono's need to accept responsibility for his past actions.
