Philadelphia: H. S. Tanner, 1826. Professionally rebacked half maroon morocco leather with marbled boards. Maps included are: SACRED GEOGRAPHY: The Places recorded in the Five Books of Moses, The Purveyorships of the Reign of Solomon, The Countries travelled by the Apostles. ECCLESIASTICAL GEOGRAPHY: Oriental Patriarchs, Occidental Patriarchs. GEOGRAPHY OF ANTIQUITIES: The (Known) Earth, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Africa, Ancient Spain, Ancient Italy, Ancienct Macedonia & Thessalia, Ancient Germany, Ancient Great Britian, and Palestine. Maps have very light spotting not detracting from the beautiful hand colored maps. Lacking map of Ancient Greece. WorldCat reports that only five of these atlas survive in libraries. One at each of the following: The Library of Congress, Brown, University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers, and Columbia. EXTREEMLY RARE, never been at auction. Tanner's career as a mapmaker began in the early 19th Century. He had a hand in publishing many of the most important American maps of the first half of the 19th Century. His business was carried on by his son Thomas Tanner and Henry Carey.. Half Morocco Leather. Very Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Hardcover.
